Message from the President
I am pleased to announce that Toei Animation has reached its 70th anniversary.
This is a proud achievement for the Company, which was founded on July 31, 1956. But we
would not be here without the day-to-day efforts of innumerable executives and employees
past and present, and above all, the generous support of animation fans, as well as the
stakeholders involved in our business. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to
you all.

Going forward, we intend to retain this sense of gratitude for the past 70 years while also
treating this major milestone as a way station on the journey toward our 100th anniversary.
Taking the opportunity to renew our resolve, we will continue challenging ourselves to
provide Japanese animation to people the world over.

History
History of TOEI ANIMATION
1956
July
Toei Doga Co. was established.
Set up headquarters in Kyobashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, with production studio in
Haramachi, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo.
1957
January
Production studio relocated to a studio in Oizumi, Nerima-ku, Tokyo (Oizumi
Studio).
1958
October
Released “THE WHITE SNAKE”, Japan’s first full-length theatrical animation film.
1960
September
Relocated headquarters to Nishiginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo (currently Ginza, Chuo-ku,
Tokyo)
1963
November
Began broadcast of its first TV animation series “KEN, THE WILD BOY”.
1966
November
“GULLIVER’S SPACE TRAVEL”, a full-length theatrical animation film, released
also in the United States.
1967
April
Began color broadcasting of the TV animation series “SALLY, THE WITCH” with
episode 18.
1973
Chogokin (die-cast) toy robots from “MAZINGER Z” became a big hit. The licensing
business went into full gear.
February
Established Tavac Co., Ltd. (currently a consolidated subsidiary).
June
Began outsourcing production overseas.
1975
February
Began overseas sales of the TV animation series.
Began character-themed shows.
1979
August
Released “GALAXY EXPRESS 999”, the first independent full-length theatrical
animation film.
1980
March
Launched full-fledged research into animation movie production using computers.
1986
February
Began broadcast of the animation series “DRAGON BALL”.
March
Started selling its original video game software.
October
Began broadcast of the animation series “SAINT SEIYA”.
1992
November
Established EEI-TOEI ANIMATION CORPORATION (currently a consolidated
subsidiary), a joint overseas contract-based production company, with EEI of the
Philippines
1996
March
Relocated headquarters to Yokodera-machi, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo.
1997
March
Established sales subsidiary TOEI ANIMATION ENTERPRISES LTD. (currently a
consolidated subsidiary) in a joint venture in Hong Kong.
1998
October
Changed company name to TOEI ANIMATION CO., LTD.
1999
February
Began broadcast of the animation series “MAGICAL DOREMI”.
March
Began broadcast of the animation series “DIGIMON ADVENTURE”.
June
Relocated headquarters to Higashioizumi, Nerima-ku, Tokyo.
October
Began broadcast of the animation series “ONE PIECE”.
2000
April
Changed the name of EEI-TOEI ANIMATION CORPORATION to TOEI ANIMATION PHILS.,
INC.
December
Publicly listed shares on the JASDAQ Securities Exchange.

Established subsidiary TOEI ANIMATION MUSIC PUBLISHING CO., LTD. (currently a
consolidated subsidiary)
2004
February
Began broadcast of the animation series “PRETTY CURE”.

Established sales subsidiary TOEI ANIMATION INCORPORATED (currently a
consolidated subsidiary) in Los Angeles, the United States.
December
Established sales subsidiary TOEI ANIMATION EUROPE S.A.S. (currently a
consolidated subsidiary) in Paris, France.

July
Established TOEI ANIMATION SHANGHAI REPRESENTATIVE OFFICE in Shanghai, China.
2014
August
Relocated headquarters to Nakano, Nakano-ku, Tokyo.
2018
January
Rebuilt Oizumi Studio.
